DUBSTEP AND CLASS

By Reynolds, has anyone commented anywhere on this Facebook group?

I stumbled across it on a (privately educated, Oxford uni-attending) friend's profile just now. No explication needed!

Which is fortunate, because I'm literally speechless ...

Dubstep: Gentrification of the 'hardcore continuum".

My sister works in a branch of Vodka Revolution in the Home Counties. I was bemused to find out last year that they had a dubstep/uk funky night. No idea what they actually play, but the only time I have tried to go to a Vodka Revs I was refused entry for not being 'classy enough'.

Simon's post made me snicker. I can see a kid gravitating to the term and adopting it as a kind of nonce word.

Dunno how it shapes up over in the UK, but as of about 2+ years ago the whole "brostep"/"boner wobble" thing pretty much took over on these shores. I think the big postmortem indicators were when Mix Master Mike leaked (i.e.: he could only give it away) his own fairly atrocious "dubstep" mix. And when that awful "War of the World" mix went viral.

I knew things had got bad. I just didn't realise they'd quite reached Prince Harry-style levels of class minstrelsy yet.
