And hypnagogic pop/hauntology in general for that matter (though I can see that hauntology is useful as a term of critical diagnosis, it's hardly a cause to get excited about is it?).

I did like Destroyer's "Kaputt" from earlier this year, which seemed to actually fulfill all the claims people were making for "Round and Round" (and managed to smuggle in an NME lament to boot!).Alex Nivenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05525684766446729078noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4120059320714810761.post-37273752854512420652011-07-21T16:58:25.226+01:002011-07-21T16:58:25.226+01:00Well I keep hearing Ariel Pink in trendier bars no...Well I keep hearing Ariel Pink in trendier bars now he's 'official', when four years ago similar people were telling me it was just disgusting ketamine dirge. The decline of the NME is a story in itself isn't it? I've heard lots of otherwise sensible people try to apologise for it recently, saying stuff like "oh it had Ariel Pink in it last week" etc, but one of the things I think most profoundly is that it needs to be gotten rid of before anything good can start happening again. It still governs the musical landscape in all kinds of pernicious ways, lame as it is. It's probably gonna go out of business anyway very soon so I guess it's just a case of waiting.Alex Nivenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05525684766446729078noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4120059320714810761.post-45133849790890105882011-07-21T02:23:22.636+01:002011-07-21T02:23:22.636+01:00Agreed -- this is a great, harrowing piece of writ...Agreed -- this is a great, harrowing piece of writing. I've had some mild experience with this type of situation (the equally mind-numbing U.S. version anyway) in the past year, and your take on the circumstances really resonates with me, thanks!Willnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4120059320714810761.post-47980432037792932282011-07-20T22:58:02.323+01:002011-07-20T22:58:02.323+01:00I really hope these fragments are working towards ...I really hope these fragments are working towards a much longer piece. It's a 'world' I've only ever viewed from the outside looking in, but its reading as very vivid, familiar and true from what these posts so far. Great stuff.

BTW that NME cover says it all. I don't know how that mag continues anymore.
